Matt Faulkner Bio

A graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, Matt Faulkner has written and illustrated a number of children's books. His work has won wide praise for its humor, exuberance and sensitivity. In addition, he is a contributing illustrator to such national periodicals as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Forbes. Matt is married to author and children's librarian, Kristen Remenar. They live with their 3 kids and 3 cats on the lower right corner of the Michigan mitten.

Matt teaches illustration at the Art Academy University in San Francisco. Matt grew up in a small town outside of Boston, Massachusetts. He was born in 1961 and went to Parmenter Elementary. From an early age Matt loved to draw. One of his first memories is being caught by his sister Stacey as he was drawing on his parents brand new kitchen table with a ball point pen. No paper, just table. Everybody was pretty mad until they saw the picture he was drawing. It was a fairly close likeness of the family's dog.

When he saw that his Dad liked the drawing and wasn't going to send him to his room for the rest of his life, Matt realized that drawing was a pretty handy skill. From that day on he started to practice drawing (on paper) everyday. Matt currently lives in Southeastern Michigan. He has a son named Gabe whose favorite subjects at school are math and science. Matt and Gabe like to play football. Gabe likes to draw, too.
